HeR Interactive’s 23rd installment to their PC/Mac Mystery Adventure games based on the classic female detective, Nancy Drew! Shadow at the Water’s Edge released on October 19, 2010. The PC and Mac game is available on herinteractive.com, Steam, and Amazon.com (affiliate link) as digital downloads.

Confront Terrifying Secrets in a Haunted Japanese Inn!
Traditional Japanese family ryokans (inns) are charming places, but a vengeful ghost is terrifying you and other unsuspecting guests. Is there a shadowy specter haunting the placid inn or is something far more sinister driving away business?

This game was built on a proprietary engine internally, by HeR Interactive. It is loosely inspired by the book Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys Super Mysteries #12: Tour of Danger.
Set in Japan, Nancy stays at a traditional Ryokan, or hotel. She is there as a getaway gift from P.G. Krolmeister for solving his previous mystery. Nancy is also teaching English during the day, so the scenes skip over this part as the player can transition from night to night to progress time. There is also an in-game clock that moves as well.
This mystery game is very puzzle-heavy, followed by a lot of investigations. It complements the juxtaposition between traditional and modern Japan. This is one of the scariest Nancy Drew games to date.

This game had some inspiration from the movie, The Ring.
This was the first Nancy Drew game to feature phone charms.
