In Nancy Drew: Midnight in Salem, you find a cipher wheel at “Abigail’s Gravesite”. Using the coded letter found in Olivia’s shop, rotate the wheels and decipher the runes to get 5 different messages. The outermost wheel never turns.
For the first code line, rotate the center wheel (American Alphabet). Turn the wheel clockwise 7 spaces so that the letter H aligns with the O symbol in the second wheel. Then grab the O symbol and rotate the wheel 6 spaces clockwise to align with the correct rune. Now that you have the first key, click the button “Select Letters” to begin deciphering the text. You now have a selector to help you visualize which rune you are choosing. Carefully locate the rune on the paper with the rune on the outer wheel. I will point it out in the video. Click anywhere within the selector’s outline to get Frank to write down your letter. You’ll know you have correctly decoded the line when the check mark appears to the left of that message.
To change the key for the second code line, only move the second wheel to match the rune. Ignore the center wheel because there is no letter shown in the code column for the rest of the code lines. Rotate the second wheel 6 spaces counter-clockwise. Once you connect the symbol with the correct rune, press the button “Select Letters” to bring up your selector. You can now locate the runes for that line of code.
Continue with this process until you decode all messages.
The third line of code: rotate the second wheel 6 spaces counter-clockwise.
The fourth line of code: rotate the second wheel 4 spaces counter-clockwise.
The fifth (last) line of code: rotate the second wheel 1 space counter-clockwise.
