Icosahedron Key Block

In Nancy Drew: Midnight in Salem, the Hardy Boys arrive at a door from which Deirdre is trapped behind. By the door is a table with a sheet of directions and 9 pieces of blocks that can be assembled into a 20-sided icosahedron key block, which will unlock the unique door.

When you enter the puzzle, the center piece is stationary and cannot be moved. You can click and drag the screen around to view the puzzle from several angles. Click on two blocks to swap them. Right-mouse click the screen to fit the pieces together and validate it. When they all click into a complete shape, you are finished. You can reset the puzzle by simply backing out, and re-clicking it to enter it again.

Here’s a solution; when you enter this puzzle, do NOT move your screen around. Instead, number the block positions as I do in the video, from 1 to 8 going clockwise, beginning with the upper-right block.

Follow this guide to swap these numbered positions:

  1. Swap block at position #4 with position #5
  2. Swap block at 6 with 4
  3. Swap block at 8 with 4
  4. Swap block at 4 with 1
  5. Swap block at 2 with 3
  6. Swap block at 2 with 7
  7. Swap block at 2 with 1
